Nautilus are quickly swimming our way, making this a good time to stock up on their favorite foods for patch day. So, today, we explore Minecraft’s upcoming mob and answer, “What do nautilus eat?”
The Nautilus

The nautilus is a new mob in Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem that spawns in all ocean biomes near the sea floor. They are easily spotted due to their white and orange shells and orange bodies, and are completely passive, making them safe to approach. Once tamed, a saddle can be placed upon their shell, allowing them to be ridden as a fast sea mount.
While sitting on a nautilus, the rider gains the “Breath of the Nautilus” buff, which provides water breathing until the nautilus is dismounted. Additionally, the nautilus has a dash ability that the rider can use for speed boosts while exploring atop its shell. During these travels, also be sure to keep an eye out for nautilus armor in ocean structure loot chests. It functions much like horse armor, complete with variants up to diamond, and can protect your nautilus steed.
What Do Nautilus Eat?

Nautilus can eat any type of fish, including buckets of fish, for breeding and healing. However, to tame a nautilus, they must be fed a pufferfish. Pufferfish are their favorite food and what they are tempted by. Those searching for pufferfish can catch them with a fishing rod in any water source that isn’t in a jungle or find them swimming about in warm ocean biomes.
The Zombie Nautilus

The nautilus also has a zombie variant that spawns in oceans, but always as a pair with a trident-wielding drowned rider. They are hostile, and their favorite food is you, the player. When searching for your living nautilus, the undead ones can be told apart thanks to their glowing eyes, green flesh, and algae-covered pale shell.
