What Do Happy Ghasts Eat?

Happy ghasts may be from the nether, but surprisingly, their favorite food is the furthest thing from it! So, today, we answer, “What Do Happy Ghasts Eat?”

What Are Happy Ghasts?

Added in Minecraft 1.21.6, happy ghasts are a ghast variant that can be raised and ridden by players. To do this, you must first obtain a dried ghast block in the soul sand valley biome of the nether or through piglin bartering. Players can also opt to craft a dried ghast block on a crafting table using one soul sand and eight ghast tears.

Regardless of the method used to obtain the dried ghast block, it must be placed within water where it will gradually grow into a ghastling and then a happy ghast. From there, players can craft a harness using three leather, two glass, and one wool and place it on the happy ghast to gain the ability to ride it. Happy ghasts can be flown with up to four players on them and come with the unique abilities to act as a platform high in the sky and carry mobs in boats attached to the happy ghast by leads.

What Do Happy Ghasts Eat?

Happy ghasts eat only one food, and that is snowballs! Ghastlings and ghasts are both tempted by them, and feeding snowballs to a ghastling will increase the rate that it grows. As of Minecraft 1.21.8, happy ghasts can not be bred, so snowballs do not cause them to enter love mode. If looking for snowballs, they can be obtained by breaking snow layers and snow blocks with a shovel of any kind. Snow can be found in snowy biomes such as snowy plains or from atop tall mountains. An easy and infinite source of snow can be gained by building a snow golem using two snow blocks and a carved pumpkin. The snow golem will always leave a trail of snow layers behind that can be harvested with a shovel.
